Obituary of Hilda Ruth Jones (nee Killam)
Of Port Stanley, ON, passed away on September 6, 2021, at the age of 88. Born January 26, 1933, in Kemptville, Nova Scotia, daughter of Rev. Whitney Killam and Velma (née Estabrooks) Killam. Hilda is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Douglas Jones, and their four children: Dale Jones, Cynthia Jones, Lorrie Futcher (Jay), and Jackie McCoubrey (John). Sister of Bruce Killam, and the late Lillian Westgate. Also survived by sister-in-law Rose Jones, and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by in-laws Paul and Lenore Jones, Eleanor and Fred Duchene, Doug MacKenzie, MacLean “Mac” Jones, and Archie Westgate. Sadly missed by 12 grandchildren; Nicole Latka (Rob), Richard Jones (Christina), Christina Sanchez-Jones (Levi), Jody Di Trolio (Frank), Jennifer Belliveau (Craig), James Husband (Tanya Jubenville), Brooke Schurch (Marcel), Becky Kloostra (Gerald), Laurel Damman (Chris), Janelle McCoubrey, Maeghan McCoubrey (Steve Goodhue), and Julie McCoubrey (Joe Vanoverbeke). Great grandmother to 18 great grandchildren, including the late Katie Kloostra. Hilda was the matriarch of her family and was passionate about family, business, and politics. In 1970, she co-founded Fingal Farm Supply in Fingal, ON with Doug, all the while still managing to be a wonderful and supportive wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. While the first love of her life was her family, she was also passionate about her love of music. She was a member of Port Stanley United Church and formerly sang in the Fingal United Church choir for many decades. Her favourite musicals could often be heard playing in her home. An avid traveler, Hilda and Doug spent many years travelling throughout North America in their motorhome. “Bluenose” as she was called by close family, will always occupy a space in the hearts of her family that forever belongs only to her.
By invitation, a private family visitation will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
