KOOME, Johannes L. “John” – Of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Friday, December 14, 2018, in his 91st year. Husband of the late Patricia (née Protheroe) Koome. Father of Geoff Koome (Sonya) of Dorchester, Katherine Edwards (Robert) of St. Thomas, and Melissa Koome of Hamilton. Grandfather of Troy Edwards of St. Thomas. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Elisabeth Soesan, late Anna Hoeksema, and the late Petrus Koome. Born in Amsterdam, Holland, The Netherlands, August 4, 1928, he was the son of the late Petrus and Adriana (née Odems) Koome. John was a retired Loblaws baker. He was a former member of the St. Thomas Seniors’ Centre and a former volunteer at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A public memorial service will be held at the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Friday, December 21st at 11:00 a.m. Relatives and friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the service. Private inurnment in the columbarium at South Park Cemetery. Memorial donations to the St. Thomas Public Library re: Home Library Service or the St. Thomas Seniors’ Centre will be gratefully acknowledged.
