Obituary of Robert F. A. "Bob" Boyle

BOYLE, Robert F.A. “Bob”, of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully in his home with family and friends and surrounded by love on Saturday, October 27, 2018, in his 97^th year.  Husband of the late Marie (née Bedford) Boyle (2002).  Father of Richard “Rick” Boyle (Carol) of St. Thomas, and the late David Boyle (2016).  Bob was lovingly cared for by his niece, Ruthann (née Chapman) Smith of St. Thomas.  He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Patti, Lori, Jaime, Robbie, Jenna, and Stacey, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, as well as several nieces, nephews and their families who will miss him dearly.  His siblings, Margaret Sim, Helen Chapman, and Hugh Boyle predeceased him.  Born in Forres, Scotland, February 16, 1922, he was the son of the late William and Jane (née Laing) Boyle.  Bob came to Canada in 1929.  During the Second World War, Bob served overseas with the Toronto Scottish Regiment.  He retired from Canron Ltd., St. Thomas as a millwright.  Bob was a long-time member of Knox Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the Independent Order of Foresters, St. Thomas.  In his day, he was an avid card player and loved to travel.  Bob had many wonderful friends who will miss him, especially his Elgin View Restaurant family.  The family would like to thank them for making it possible for Bob to spend his final days exactly where he wanted to be…”in the big chair by the window.”  Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Thursday, November 1^st from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m.  at the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160). The funeral service will take place at Knox Presbyterian Church, 55 Hincks St., St. Thomas on Friday, November 2^nd at 11:00 a.m., followed by a reception in Rodney Hall.  Interment will be made privately in Elmdale Memorial Park.  Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or the Kidney Foundation of Canada will be gratefully acknowledged.
