Obituary of M. Jacob "Jake" Groenenberg

Of St. Thomas, peacefully went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Saturday, May 18, 2024, in his 94th year. Beloved husband of Cornelia “Corrie” (née Ridder) Groenenberg. Dearly loved father of Jean (André), Dorothy (John), Herb (Grace), Alice (Clarence), and the late Ralph (Judy). Also survived by 21 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his great grandson, James Carey (2008).  

Born in Zevenhuizen, ZH, The Netherlands, December 4, 1930, he was a son of the late Huib and Dirkje (née Vanden Heuvel) Groenenberg. Jake came to Dover Centre, ON from The Netherlands in 1953 and to St. Thomas in 1955. He was a retired self-employed carpenter. Jake enjoyed volunteering for many years with the Mission Thrift Store and Disaster Relief (CRWRC). He was a member of the Fellowship Church, St. Thomas.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at the Fellowship Church, 641 Elm St., St. Thomas. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00-10:50 a.m. Interment will be made in Elmdale Memorial Park. The service will be livestreamed on the Fellowship Church, St. Thomas YouTube channel. Memorial donations to the St. Thomas Community Christian School will be gratefully acknowledged.
