Obituary of James Peter Cook

Of St. Thomas, ON, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Monday, April 29, 2024, in his 83rd year.

 

Best friend and beloved husband of Shirley (née Branton) for 60 years. Loved father of Karen, Kathy (Todd Noble), and John. Cherished grandfather of Dawson. Brother-in-law of Sharon and Norm Simpson, Ruth Branton (late Jack), and Margaret Branton (late George). Uncle to Holly, Sarah, and late Matthew, Rob, Leisa, and David.

 

Born in St. Thomas, December 16, 1941, he was the son of the late Lyle and Belva (née Lewis) Cook. Peter was the son-in-law of the late Jack and Ethel (née Bradley) Branton. He was a graduate of the St. Thomas Collegiate Institute, Ryerson in Toronto, and Fanshawe College (Class A Mechanic). Peter was the former owner/operator of Lyle Cook Automotive Service Centre. He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas. Peter was a Past Master and Life Member of Talbot Lodge #546, A.F. & A.M., St. Thomas, and a member of St. Thomas United Lodge #44, A.F. & A.M. He was a former member of the Hi-Ro Shrine Club Scooter Unit and the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Florida.

 

Relatives and friends will be received by the family on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 12:45-1:45 p.m. at the Masonic Centre of Elgin, 42703 Fruit Ridge Line, St. Thomas. A Masonic service under the auspices of St. Thomas United Lodge #44, A.F. & A.M. will be held at 2:00 p.m., immediately followed by a funeral service to celebrate Peter’s life. Following cremation, private interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. If so desired, please consider a memorial donation to Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas, Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario, Diabetes Canada, Shriners Hospitals for Children- Canada, or a charity of your choice.
