Obituary of Gizela Orkic (nee Bukli)

Formerly of St. Thomas, passed away at Earls Court Village, London, ON on Monday, November 27, 2023, in her 84th year. Wife of the late Ilija Orkic (1990). Dearly loved mother of Sonja Mertick (Phillip Golovchenko) and Frank Orkic (Janet). Cherished grandmother of Zachairi, Christian, Nina, and Nikolas. Dear sister of Andras Bukli.

Gizela was born in Yugoslavia, May 26, 1940. She formerly worked at United Technologies, St. Thomas. Gizela was a member of St. Anne’s Roman Catholic Church, St. Thomas, and a former active member of the St. Thomas Seniors’ Centre.  She was also an avid knitter and made hats for newborns for the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital.

Relatives and friends will be received by the family at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Thursday, November 30th from 5:00-8:00 p.m. (Prayers at 7:45 p.m.).   The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Angels’ Roman Catholic Church, 502 Talbot St., St. Thomas on Friday, December 1st at 1:30 p.m., followed by interment in Holy Angels’ Cemetery. Memorial donations to the charity of one's choice will be gratefully acknowledged.
