Obituary of Bernard G. "Bernie" Schoenthier
Of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 3, 2023, in his 66th year. Beloved husband of Patricia “Trish” Fifield. Dearly loved father of Trudy Kitchen (Geoff), and Kayla Schoenthier (Dan Abel), and step-father of Jordan Moss (Andrea). Proud Opa of Reese, Maks, Oliver, Charlie, Cohen, and Emerson. Dear brother of Rainer Schoenthier (Laurie), and Kathy Dyer (Tim). Bernie is also fondly remembered by sister-in-law, Donna Bard, as well as his nieces, nephews, and their families.
Born in St. Thomas, July 13, 1957, he was a son of the late Kurt and Erna (née Gohla) Schoenthier. Bernie was the former owner/operator of Bern’s Auto Body, New Sarum, and was formerly employed at the Sterling Truck Assembly Plant, St. Thomas. He was a retired employee of the Thames Valley District School Board. Bernie was a former volunteer firefighter with the Township of Yarmouth Fire Department.
Bernie was a jack of all trades, with limitless skills, many of which he passed on to his step son. He always had a project on the go - building, fixing, or renovating. He adored spending time with his wife, traveling and planning their next adventure, or relaxing in their backyard. His smile and sense of humour could light up any room. One thing you could count on, was that Bernie would do anything for his family. He was never more than a phone call away.
In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. If so desired, please consider a memorial donation to the Hospice of Elgin. Arrangements are entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
Please join family and friends for an open house to celebrate the life of Bernie. Play some yard games, have some snacks, drinks and share your memories and stories. Sunday, July 9, 2023 from 2 - 6 p.m. at Wildflowers Farm. 42338 Fruit Ridge Line, St Thomas, ON.
