Obituary of Barbara Ann "Barb" Hubert
HUBERT, Barbara Ann “Barb” (née Austin) - Of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Monday, January 9, 2023, in her 86th year. Beloved wife for 65 years to Gary Hubert. Dearly loved mother of Wayne Hubert (Dana), Neil Hubert (Robin Grindley), and Janet Hubert. She was proud of her grandchildren, Corrina, Brandon, and Amanda. Dear sister-in-law of Robert “Bob” Hubert (late Fran). Dear aunt of Dale Hubert (Linda), and Karen Baxter, and their families.
Barb was born in St. Thomas, November 2, 1937, where she remained a life-long resident. Barb was formerly employed for many years as a legal secretary with the law firm of Carrie & O’Dea and retired from Family & Children’s Services–St. Thomas and Elgin as a legal assistant. She was a valued member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas, where she was a beloved member of the Outreach Circle and active for many years with the church bazaar. Prior to Knox, Barb attended the former Alma St. Presbyterian Church. She was a past secretary and long-time volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society Elgin County Unit. Barb was also a long-time and avid member of the Family YMCA of St. Thomas-Elgin.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A service to celebrate Barb’s life will be held at Knox Presbyterian Church, 55 Hincks St., St. Thomas on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, at 11:30 a.m., followed by a reception in the Rodney Hall of the church. Friends will be received by the family prior to the service from 10:15-11:15 a.m. in the sanctuary of the church. The wearing of a mask will be appreciated. Flowers respectfully declined.
