Obituary of Barbara "Barb" Mercer (nee Allen)

Mercer, Barbara A. "Barb" (née Allen) - Of St. Thomas, formerly of Aylmer, passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2022, at Exeter Villa, Exeter, in her 85th year. Adored wife of William G. “Bill” Mercer, and the late Judson Young. Loved step-mother of Brian Mercer (Becky) of Exeter, and the late Lynne McDonald (Gordon) of London. Much loved grandmother of Wade McDonald (Jessica), Brett McDonald (Mckensey), Cole McDonald (Nimi), Carly Mercer (Reid), Cayley Mercer, and Cullen Mercer (Megan), and great grandmother of Daxton and Penelope McDonald.  She is also survived by her cousins.

Born in St. Thomas, ON, March 7, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Warren and Helen (née Sharkey) Allen. Barb was a retired employee of MacMillan Bathurst, St. Thomas. She formerly attended Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas, was a former volunteer at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital, formerly curled in the Business Ladies League at the Aylmer Curling Club, and was a former member of the Talbot Park Golf Club, St. Thomas. Barb was also a former member of the original First United Church Argonettes.

A funeral and committal service will be held at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 21, with visitation prior from 10:00-10:45 a.m. Interment will be made privately in Elmdale Memorial Park. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged.
