Obituary of Wallace "Wally" Lockwood
It is with heavy hearts the family wishes to announce the passing of Wallace “Wally” Lockwood on Thursday, November 10, 2022, at Extendicare Port Stanley. Born December 4, 1932, he passed away at the age of 89. Following the passing of Donna, his beloved wife of 70 years, just ten weeks earlier, Wally experienced profound grief accompanied by a gradual decline in his health. Family, friends, and caregivers truly believe he died of a broken heart. Ever the gentleman, he died with dignity and grace.
Father of Peter Lockwood (Julie), and LuAnn Lambert (late George). Grandfather of Christopher Lockwood (Melissa), and Becky Taylor-LeBlanc (David), and great grandfather of Paige, Karmin, Jacob, and Lorna. Wally is also remembered by his nieces, Joan and Nancy. He was the son of the late Harold and Jean (née Woodford) Lockwood.
Wally was a former member of St. John’s Anglican Church and Talbot Lodge #546, A.F. & A.M., St. Thomas. He served as Treasurer and President on the board of directors of the Locke's Community Club and enjoyed coaching minor baseball. Wally loved golf and was proud to have had four holes-in-one over the years. He was a former very active member of the Talbot Park Golf Course and the Belmont Golf Club. He and Donna spent many years vacationing in Florida with the “golf gang" and eventually became snowbirds, acquiring their own mobile home, so they could golf year-round. They engaged in many community events at their Winter Haven home.
In keeping with Wally’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Relatives and friends will be received by the family for a memorial visitation at the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington Street, St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Thursday, November 17th from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. (The wearing of a mask at the visitation is encouraged.) A private graveside service for the immediate family will follow at Elmdale Memorial Park. If so desired, please consider a memorial donation to the Hospice of Elgin.
The family wishes to express a heartfelt thank you to all members of the health services team at Extendicare Port Stanley, for the care and compassion shown to Wally. The attentiveness and respect he received during his all too short stay was exemplary.
