Obituary of Donald K. Wood

Of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Friday, July 22, 2022, in his 89th year. 

Husband of Margaret (née Reid) Wood. Father of Cathy Wood of Edmonton, Christine Wybo (Bernard) of Courtland, David Wood of Hamilton, and Dianne Wood (Colleen) of St. Thomas. Grandfather of James Wood, Andrew Gibbs, J.D. Gibbs, Ryan Wood, and Dani Bartlett. Great grandfather of Rain, Jaden, Karma, Johnson, Maggie, and Korbyn Gibbs, Leland Wood, and Brody and Devin Bartlett. Brother of Marshall Wood (late Irene), late John Wood (late Jenny), and the late Nancy Sykes.  Also survived by several nieces, nephews, and their families.

Born in Toronto, ON, February 28, 1934, he was a son of the late John and Ivy (née Little) Wood.  Don was a retired Superintendent with the Ontario Provincial Police in St. Thomas, London and Toronto, and was a member of the Ontario Provincial Police Association. 

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and Don’s cremated remains will be privately placed in the columbarium in Elmdale Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends are invited to attend a reception to celebrate Don’s life on Sunday, September 25th between the hours of 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Masonic Centre of Elgin, 42703 Fruit Ridge Line, St. Thomas.  Stories about Don are welcomed and encouraged. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society of Canada will be gratefully acknowledged.  Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
