Obituary of Hugh S. Orchard
ORCHARD, Hugh S.- Of St. Thomas, passed away peacefully at his residence on Friday, April 30, 2021, in his 81st year. Beloved husband of Carol (née Palmer) Orchard and the late Dorothy “Dot” (née Chaplow) Orchard (2015). Dearly loved father of John Orchard (Pam), Michele Lant (Kevin), and Alison Cihra (Rob). Cherished grandfather of Natasha (Andrew), Nicole (Andy), Tyler (Rachel), Kirsten (Ben), Justin (Abi), Matthew, Mark (Taylor), Jordan (Kristina), Ryan (Ashley), Grace, William, and Georgia. Proud great grandfather of Charlie, Edward, Sebastian, Felix, Guinevere, James, Adrian, and Norah. Dear brother of Mary Clutterbuck (Perry), Glenn Orchard (Jo Ann), Keith Orchard (Sandy), Rev. Neil Orchard (Judy), Roy Orchard (Anette), and Dana Wetzel. Also fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and their families. Born in St. Thomas, ON, February 16, 1941, he was a son of the late Sydney and Ilene (née Gilbert) Orchard. A professor, Hugh taught at the main campus of Fanshawe College, London in the Electrical Division for 29 years. Hugh was an active member of Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas where he was an Elder Emeritus in the Kirk Session, and a member of the Board of Managers and the Men’s Club. He was a member of the Shedden Cemetery Board, a Past President of the Shedden Agricultural Society, and a former member of the St. Thomas Men’s Barbershop Chorus. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. By invitation, a service to celebrate Hugh’s life was held at Knox Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas on Saturday, October 16, 2021. Due to COVID restrictions,attendance numbers were limited. Interment of his cremated remains was made in Shedden Cemetery. Flowers respectfully declined. Memorial donations to Knox Presbyterian Church or the charity of one’s choice will be gratefully acknowledged. Arrangements entrusted to the Sifton Funeral Home, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
