PAYSON, Ronald C. “Ron”- Of St. Thomas, passed away at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital on Saturday, May 30, 2020, his 88th birthday. Beloved husband of the late Gladys (née Gowdey) Payson (Nov. 10, 1993). Dearly loved father of Paul Payson (Tiina) and the late Brian Payson (Feb. 15, 2020). Cherished grandfather of Beth Payson (Mark Miller), Vickie Payson (Gregg Mattinson), Katie Kosid (Brad), and Diane Payson. Proud great grandfather of Meredith, Abby, Audrey, Carter, and Parker. Dear brother of Dorothy Payson and the late Harold E. Payson, and dear brother-in-law of Marjorie Gowdey. Also fondly remembered by step-grandchildren, Taavi Burns, Lisel Gitzel, Bevan Sauks, and Maret Burns, as well as several nieces, nephews and their families. Born in St. Thomas, ON, May 30, 1932, he was the son of the late Harold E. and Minnie (née Willson) Payson. Ron was a retired employee of the University of Western Ontario (School of Medicine). He was a respected member of St. Andrew’s United Church, St. Thomas. Ron was an avid stamp and coin collector, birdwatcher, enjoyed nature, and in earlier years enjoyed fishing. A private graveside service will be held at Elmdale Memorial Park. A public celebration of Ron’s life will be held at a later date when it is safe to do so. Memorial donations to St. Andrew’s United Church or the charity of your choice will be gratefully acknowledged. Arrangements entrusted to the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160).
