Obituary of William W. "Bill" Burgess

BURGESS, William W. “Bill”, formerly of Fingal, passed away at Extendicare, Port Stanley on Wednesday, February 13, 2019, in his 95^th year.  Beloved husband for 68 years to the late Margaret (née Prior) Burgess (2013).  Dearly loved father of Barbara Telfer (Ken) of St. Thomas, Ray Burgess (Barbara) of RR1, St. Thomas, and the late Donna Burgess (Jan. 8, 2019).  Cherished grandfather of Lisa Telfer, Alex Telfer (Dawn), Richard Burgess (Jennifer), Craig Burgess, and Steven Burgess.  Proud great grandfather of Jordan, Julia, Kate, Anderson, Taiten, and Evelyn.  Also survived by several nephews.  A grandson, David J. Burgess died in 1984, and a sister, Myrna Davis died in 2008.  Born in St. Thomas, ON, July 21, 1924, he was the son of the late Carl and Reta (née Wallis) Burgess.  Bill was a retired dairy farmer.  He was a member of Knox Presbyterian Church, Fingal, where he was an elder for many years, a member of Warren Lodge #120, A.F. & A.M., Fingal, and Golden Acres Chapter #305, O.E.S, Shedden, and a former member of the Optimist Club of Fingal.  The funeral service will be held at the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Saturday, February 16^th at 1:30 p.m.  Relatives and friends will be received by the family one hour prior to the service.  Interment in Union Cemetery.  Flowers respectfully declined.  If so desired, memorial donations to the Extendicare Ladies Auxiliary or the charity of one’s choice will be appreciated.  Special thanks to the staff at Extendicare, Port Stanley for the compassionate and loving care provided to Bill.
