SCHOENTHIER, Erna (née Gohla), formerly of St. Thomas and New Sarum, passed away at the Aylmer Retirement Residence, on Tuesday, January 22, 2019, in her 95th year. Beloved wife for over 68 years to the late Kurt R. Schoenthier (2016). Loving mother of Rainer Schoenthier (Laurie) of St. Thomas, Kathy Dyer (Tim) of Nobel, ON, and Bernie Schoenthier (Trish Fifield) of St. Thomas. Cherished grandmother of Marcie Vandenberghe of St. Thomas, Wendy Rego (Steve) of Ingersoll, Trudy Kitchen (Geoff) of Brantford, Kayla Abel (Dan) of Shedden, Jesse Dyer (Jessica) of Thunder Bay, Adam Moss of Brampton, Jordan Moss (Andrea) of Brantford, and Emerson and Cohen Moss, both of Brantford. Loved great grandmother of Alyssa, Josh, Anthony, Lily, Reese, Maks, Charlie, and Oliver. Dear sister-in-law of Gerda Temple of R.R.#1, St. Thomas. Also fondly remembered by several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Hanna Bielefeld and Charlotte Koenitzer. Born in Gruenhartau, Schlesien, Germany, April 16, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Alfred and Bertha (née Rohnstock) Gohla. Erna worked alongside her husband in the family business, New Sarum Auto Body and the family orchard. She was a founding member of the German Canadian Club, St. Thomas. Erna immigrated to Canada in 1951 with Kurt, Rainer and family. Her family was her pride and joy and she loved spending time with them. Erna put everyone’s needs ahead of her own and always made sure there was food and drink on the table. The funeral service will be held at the SIFTON FUNERAL HOME, 118 Wellington St., St. Thomas (519-631-1160) on Friday, January 25th at 1:30 p.m., followed by interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends will be received by the family prior to the service from noon to 1:30 p.m. Flowers respectfully declined. Memorial donations to the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital Foundation will be gratefully acknowledged.
